Kuwait’s event addressed Women Empowerment in the Local Community and Workplace.
Kuwait City - Citi celebrated International Women's Day (IWD), a UN-designated occasion that celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women around the world through a series of events held at its branches across the globe.
IWD has been observed since in the early 1900's with the first National Woman's Day observed across the United States on February 28th, 1909. Annually on March 8th, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, networking events and government activities through to local women's craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more.
Held under the theme: “Connecting Women. Inspiring Change. Making Progress”, Citibank Kuwait hosted 15 students from Bayan High School for Girls for a Job Shadow Day. The Job Shadow is a one-day program that falls under INJAZ Kuwait’s umbrella and exposes students to the world of work at a chosen company. The students received tips on how to manage and achieve a successful interview through role play which was supervised by the Head of Human Resources at Citibank Kuwait, Hany Magdy. This activity was followed by steps on how to write a CV which gave students an insight on skills and how to portray their experience when applying for a job. The day ended with a tour of the bank's departments with an explanation on what each department does.
“Citi wanted to combine its local community efforts with the theme of International Women’s Day by empowering today’s young generation and giving them step by step processes to prepare them for their jobs once they graduate from university”, commented Ozgur Kutay, General Manager of Citibank Kuwait. “Organizing this day with role play and skills building was definitely more intriguing than a workshop or seminar and we felt the students not only benefited but enjoyed the day with us”, he concluded.
“We were pleased when Citibank Kuwait decided to partner with INJAZ Kuwait for this important global occasion. At INJAZ Kuwait, we aim to provide the necessary support to empower the youth and prepare them for the job market through a number of programs. The Job Shadow program introduces soft skills that the young generation will require moving forward in order to excel in their future careers”, commented Rana A. Al-Nibari, Chief Executive Officer of INJAZ Kuwait.
Citi’s participation in International Women’s Day (IWD) is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of women to Citi and to emphasize the role they play in defining the progress and future of this company. Relevant events which are held on the day aim at inspiring women and celebrating their achievements, as well as addressing social and professional challenges facing women around the world.
The 2015 events are a continuation of 2014 celebrations when Citi hosted over 230 programs including over 44 client events across 89 countries.
